About Rosa
My name is Rosa, and my country is home to the world’s largest food fight! Every year on the last Wednesday of August, 30,000 people gather in the small town of Buñol, near Valencia to have a town-wide tomato fight called La Tomatina. This tomato war was said to have started as a food fight by school children that became an annual tradition and was officially recognized in 1959. Trucks dump nearly 265,000 lbs of tomatoes into the village streets for ammunition. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase: "Playing with your food!" Even though my home town is 7 hours away from Buñol, my family drives there and we stay with my aunt so that we can watch the food fight from her balcony. La Tomatina is one of my favourite festivals and includes a week long celebration, but afterwards I don’t feel like eating tomatoes for a while! Do you know where I live?
